In the PEOPLE’S REPUBLIK of BREUKELEN

When folk flocked to Brooklyn from Manhattan, it was partially for finances and partially to escape the Non-Stop Manhattan 24/7 syndrome. As I walk through Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, Bed Stuy and more, it’s fairly easy to see the old Brooklyn giving way  to the gloss of its neighbor, Manhattan. I’m not going to say that everything is bad nor would I say that some of the change is good, but when I look at downtown Brooklyn and see tall buildings leaving the landmarks of Brooklyn buried in the shadows, I have to take a deep deep breath and shake my head.
